Zoho Flow vs Make vs Power Automate: which one should your business actually use?
The most common automation platform question we get isn't "how do I use this?" It's "which one should I be using?" The honest answer is: it depends on your business — but there's a practical framework that makes the decision straightforward for most small businesses.
Let's look at the three platforms we work with most often: Zoho Flow, Make (formerly Integromat), and Microsoft Power Automate.
Zoho Flow
Best for: Businesses already using Zoho One or planning to.
Zoho Flow is the automation engine built into the Zoho ecosystem. It connects natively to every Zoho app — CRM, Books, Desk, Sign, WorkDrive, Creator — and to hundreds of external apps via pre-built connectors.
The major advantage is depth of Zoho integration. When you want a Zoho Books invoice to trigger a Zoho Sign document request that creates a Zoho CRM task, Flow handles it cleanly. No API juggling, no workarounds. It just works the way the ecosystem was designed to work.
The limitation is that outside the Zoho universe, Flow's connector library is more limited than Make or Zapier. And for complex multi-step logic with conditional branching, you'll often need Deluge to fill the gaps.
Choose Zoho Flow if: You're in the Zoho ecosystem or planning to be. The native integration depth is unmatched for Zoho-to-Zoho automations.
Make (formerly Integromat)
Best for: Complex automations involving multiple non-Zoho platforms.
Make is the power tool of no-code automation. Its visual flow builder is genuinely impressive — you can see the entire automation as a diagram, with each step represented as a module. For complex scenarios involving data transformation, conditional routing, error handling, and multi-branch logic, Make is often the clearest way to build it.
It has one of the largest connector libraries available, covers most major platforms, and handles things like looping through arrays, parsing JSON, and calling APIs with a lot more flexibility than Flow.
The tradeoff is the learning curve. Make is not as simple as Zoho Flow for straightforward automations, and the pricing scales with the number of "operations" your automations run — which can get expensive at volume.
Choose Make if: Your automation involves multiple platforms outside Zoho, requires complex data transformation, or involves multi-step conditional logic that simpler tools struggle to express.
Microsoft Power Automate
Best for: Businesses already on Microsoft 365.
Power Automate is Microsoft's automation platform, and if your business runs on Microsoft 365 — Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel — it's the natural choice. The native integration with Microsoft products is excellent, and if you're using Azure services or Dynamics 365, Power Automate is essentially built for you.
Outside the Microsoft ecosystem, its connectors are solid but not exceptional. The interface takes some getting used to, and some actions that are simple in Make or Flow require a few extra steps in Power Automate.
Choose Power Automate if: Your team lives in Microsoft 365. The Teams and Outlook integrations alone can eliminate a significant amount of manual work for Microsoft-centric businesses.
The practical decision
- Primarily Zoho stack → Zoho Flow (with Deluge for complex logic)
- Primarily Microsoft stack → Power Automate
- Mixed stack or complex multi-platform automation → Make
- Zoho + non-Zoho complex automation → Zoho Flow + Make in combination
